Dana White reveals Georges St. Pierre’s recovery is on track but don’t expect him back any time soon
UFC President, Dana White has urged on the side of caution when it comes to the return of welterweight champion, Georges St. Pierre following serious knee surgery, explaining the ultra-talented Canadian’s recovery is on track but not to expect to see him for a number of months yet.
Speaking after this weekends UFC 143 event in Las Vegas, Dana said:
“Georges has been rehabilitating and he’s been doing great. He is on track, but he is still far from being ready. These surgeries these days aren’t what they used to be. He went to the absolute best doctor there is. He’s getting the best physical therapy that you can get and he’s a hard worker. Some of these knee surgeries now are just as good – I mean, Jerry Rice, 10 years ago, came back from a knee surgery and was still awesome. It depends on the individual, but these knee surgeries are way different than they used to be.”
Dana went on to reveal that St. Pierre had experienced a sharp pain when he jumped out of his seat during the UFC 143 main event between Carlos Condit and Nick Diaz but was confident that when the time was right he’d return to the octagon at 100%. GSP recently stated he wouldn’t be ready to train until at least July. The earliest return to action is late this year. Even the champion himself said that late October or early November would be the soonest he could be back.
