Satoshi Ishii on facing Fedor Emelianenko: “He is the one who has the most to lose”
Japanese heavyweight prospect, Satoshi Ishii has been giving his thoughts on taking on formerly ranked number one fighter on the planet, Fedor Emelianenko this New Year’s Eve in Saitama, Japan, explaining he is feeling very little pressure heading into this fight as the Russian has far more to lose.
Speaking via LowKick.com, Ishii said:
“That is fine that people consider Fedor the favorite. And it does not bother me at all that everyone thinks that I am the underdog. Less pressure for me. He is the one who has the most to lose going 1-3 in his last 4 fights.”
“I would not say that I have any real advantage over Fedor the man is a legend and has faced all styles. But I am confident wherever this fight goes. Whether we stand and trade or on the ground. As far as my Judo against him, well yes I do feel my Judo will play a big part of this fight if he decides to clinch with me.”
Ishii was expected to make an impact on the mixed martial arts world after winning judo gold at the Olympic games in 2008. He brings a 4-1-1 record into this one after defeating the likes of Ikuhisa Minowa and Jerome Le Banner. He lost his first MMA fight to Japanese MMA legend, Hidehiko Yoshida.
