Dana White says he’s not prepared to give Nate Marquardt a fourth chance to get his act together
UFC President, Dana White has been commenting further on the promotions decision to cut former middleweight title contender, Nate Marquardt from the roster after he failed to pass a medical last weekend in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, explaining he’s not prepared to give the fighter a fourth chance.
Speaking via MMAWeekly.com, Dana said:
“There’s a difference between testosterone-replacement therapy and where you get it to a level where it’s a performance-enhancer. I’m not a doctor, so I’m not going to pretend I even remotely know what I’m talking. But I know you get to certain level where it’s more than testosterone-replacement therapy and trying to get back to normal levels.”
“To me this is his fourth chance; this would be a fourth chance. He tested positive before, then apparently he was on suspension with New Jersey because his levels were high, then he comes into (Pittsburgh) and he doesn’t pass his medicals. Now you tell me is that fourth chance or is that a second chance? Sounds like a fourth chance to me.”
“Nate’s a nice guy, he’s a real sweet, nice, humble guy, but the facts are the facts. It’s easier to go after a guy like Josh Barnett, you know what I mean? He’s just callous and rude and a dick, so it’s easier when he does it to just go, you know what? (Expletive) Josh Barnett. The difference is Nate’s such a sweet, nice guy with the same results.”
“I literally didn’t know that (about his therapy) till Thursday, but the people in my organization did. The people who handle the medicals and things like that. I was pretty upset about it when I found out about it on Thursday. If I would have known earlier, I would have made sure it was taken care of differently. Nate’s done. I’m done with Nate.”
There has been a lot of public support for the promotion to re-hire the man dubbed “The Great” with many saying what Chael Sonnen did last year a much more serious breath of the rules after contracting a similar sort of condition. Stay tuned to MMABay for word on whether Dana and the UFC change there mind as we get it.
