UFC 119 – Sean McCorkle not looking to be the center of attention in his home town of Indianapolis
Recently signed to the UFC’s heavyweight ranks, Sean McCorkle has been giving his thoughts on fighting in his hometown of Indianapolis, Indiana later this month against Mark Hunt at UFC 119, explaining he’s not exactly thrilled with being the center of attention.
Speaking via ProMMANow.co.uk, McCorkle said:
“To be honest with you, I wasn’t excited with fighting in my hometown for my UFC debut. I actually don’t really like being the center of attention despite my Internet persona. I’ve got guys I haven’t seen since ninth grade asking me if I need an extra corner man.”
The super heavyweight then spoke about getting the call from his manager about a fight with the UFC, admitting he’s had to shed around fifty pounds to make the weight.
“Three weeks later, [Monte] called me in the middle of the night and asked me if I could make 265 in three months. I said, ‘Yeah, as long as the money is worth it.’ I’m about 279 right now, down from about 315 or 317.”
McCorkle then turned his attentions to the job at hand and a showdown with former K-1 star, Mark Hunt, inside the octagon later this month in Indianapolis, Indiana.
“I do have a considerable amount of reach. But I’m not going to try and force it one way or the other. It’ll be the strangest feeling in the world. I was kind of hoping it would be a guy I don’t like.”
“I’ve heard some people saying this is Mark Hunt’s last chance and he has more to lose. But I hate losing more than I hate anything in the world; the first time I lose a fight, I won’t be normal for two or three months. I’ll get upset over a game of monopoly when I’m playing with my friends. I didn’t have it in me to quit. It takes a different kind of guy to fight. That’s the only reason I’m interested in making more of a career out of it.”
McCorkle heads to the octagon with a perfect 9-0 record and having finished all bar one of his opponents inside the distance. He was last seen in action in May, defeating Jonathan Ivey via TKO in the second round.
