Alistair Overeem says fight against Fedor Emelianenko will definitely happen after he’s done with K-1 Grand Prix
Strikeforce heavyweight champion, Alistair Overeem has revealed a fight between himself and Fedor Emelianenko will definitely happen after he’s done with the K-1 Grand Prix, before adding he believes Fedor’s management called him out so they can dodge a fight with Antonio “Big Foot” Silva.
Speaking via MiddleEasy.com, Overeem said:
“About the fight I can be short. The fight is definite. I’ve waited long enough for Fedor, [he] did not answer so now I do K-1. Fedor and M-1 may now wait for me. And all that happiness around ‘M-1 and characters’ does not amuse me. However, the fight ‘Overeem vs. Fedor’ will definitely [happen] since no one is afraid of anyone anymore.”
Overeem, currently 33-11 MMA, publicly backed Antonio Silva’s push for a fight against the Russian earlier this week on the social networking website, Twitter.
“@Bigfoot Silva; Everybody is talkin about me and Fedor, it’s not fair to you. Fedor should fight you in December.”
“The real reason M-1/Fedor called me out is to distract attention of a possible match with Silva. He wants Fedor but M-1 doesn’t want Silva.”
Despite pushing for a fight against Fedor for some time, Overeem has been dismissed by Emelianenko’s management for not being a worthy opponent. “The Demolition Man” will participate in this year’s K-1 World Grand Prix Final 16 tournament and a fight between the two is a matchup many will want to see.
