With rematch with Fabricio Werdum looking unlikely, Fedor Emelianenko calls out Alistair Overeem
Formerly top rated heavyweight in the world, Fedor Emelianenko appears to be stepping up his quest to return to the top of those rankings before the end of the year by calling out Strikeforce heavyweight champion, Alistair Overeem to meet him in the cage.
Speaking via MixFight.ru, Fedor said:
“Absolutely, I would like a rematch with Werdum. But as he was recently operated on, then as soon as this fight is unlikely to happen. This year, in November-December, I would prefer to meet in a cage with Alistair Overeem.”
“This is an important match for me and something that I personally want to happen. There have been conversations about putting this match-up together in the past and now is the time to begin making this bout possible.”
The promotion were said to be considering Antonio “Big Foot” Silva for the Russian’s next fight, mindful that he has just one fight left on his current deal with the promotion. Stay tuned to MMABay for more on this situation as we get it.
