Team Quest’s Matt Lindland says he’d “love it if Chael was Anderson’s next opponent”
MMA veteran and current Strikeforce middleweight Matt ‘The Law’ Lindland has given his thoughts on last weekend’s UFC middleweight title clash between Anderson Silva and his training partner and student, Chael Sonnen. Lindland revealed that he is not surprised that Silva was sidelined after the fight and would love nothing more than to see his Team Quest comrade get an immediate rematch.
In an interview with FightHype.com, Lindland was asked whether he felt Sonnen deserved a rematch with the champion, as well as what the Team Quest camp would plan for Chael if the fight did not transpire due to Silva being injured and had the following to say.
“That doesn’t surprise me that Anderson is out after that fight. I would love it if Chael was Anderson’s next opponent. Dana’s the boss. He makes those decisions and does he care what I think? Probably not, but he cares what the fans think and if the fans want to see that, Dana’s really good at trying to do what the fans want……. We would love to be Anderson’s next opponent. Will Chael take a fight in between there? Yeah! If we’re healthy and Dana wants us to fight, then we’re back in there. Chael will fight…. He’s a fighter and he’s going to do whatever it takes to get that belt. If that means he’s gotta take another fight in between, we will do that. We will do whatever it takes.”
Lindland also updated the fans on Sonnen’s current condition following the fight, revealing he is suffering nothing more than the usual cuts and bruises after battling with the champion for almost five full rounds. Team Quest certainly appear to be keen on setting up an immediate rematch between their man and the champion, but only time will tell whether Sonnen has to accept another challenge in the meantime while Silva recovers.
