Rich Franklin eyeing December return after learning his broken arm doesn’t require surgery
Former UFC middleweight turned light heavyweight, Rich Franklin has identified December or January for an octagon return after learning his broken arm, injured against Chuck Liddell at UFC 115, doesn’t require surgery.
Speaking via MMAJunkie.com, Franklin’s business manager, J.T. Stewart said:
“He needed to make sure it healed correctly. He was feeling good. A few days before (the doctor’s appointment), he was telling some people, ‘I don’t think I’m going to need surgery. It’s feeling pretty good.’”
“If it hadn’t healed correctly, they would have had to probably re-break or reset it and put it back in a big cast. It would have been a setback. He’s not real happy about that. But it could have been worse.”
Franklin got back to winning ways in an entertaining battle against UFC “Hall of Famer”, Chuck Liddell at UFC 115 in June by knocking out the former light heavyweight title holder in the first round. “Ace”, currently 26-5 MMA, 13-4 UFC, is now anxious to get back into the cage and move into title contention.
“I think he’s definitely motivated. I think he was excited about how the (UFC 115) fight ended and that it was Chuck Liddell, a legend and Hall of Famer who’s so well-respected. Rich respects him a lot.”
The win over Liddell definitely earmarked Franklin as a potential challenger for the light heavyweight championship, although “Ace” will have to wait some time before that can be a reality.
