UFC 120 – Bisping vs. Akiyama confirmed for main event, Hardy vs. Condit bringing up the rear
It appears UK fans are set to miss out once again on their “promised” title fight this year after it was confirmed to MMABay earlier today that UFC 120 on October 16th at the O2 Arena in London, England would be headlined by the middleweight clash between Michael Bisping and Yoshihiro Akiyama.
The co-main event will be contested between former welterweight title contender, Dan “The Outlaw” Hardy taking on former WEC 170 pound champion, Carlos Condit, another fight that will be sure to entertain the fans in attendance on the night.
A source close to the situation confirmed the news to us earlier today, scuppering any hopes that the promotion might be about to make it up to the UK fans after failing to deliver serious star power in the last two years.
There had been the normal rumblings online from UK fans that they were hopeful of a big title fight due to the promotion bringing the UFC Fan Expo to town, maybe something like Brock Lesnar vs. Cain Velasquez, but also no.
I would encourage UK fans to give the video interview above a listen where I personally interviewed UFC President, Dana White back in January 2009, where he admitted he would be looking to make it up to fans in the UK and promised a title fight next time around. Two years later, we’re still waiting Dana…
