K.J. Noons ready to kick start his MMA career, starting tonight at Strikeforce: Los Angeles
Former EliteXC 160 pound champion, K.J. Noons has been speaking about returning to action inside the United States tonight at Strikeforce: Los Angeles against Conor Heun, although he insists he’s kept active enough to not have to worry about ring rust.
Speaking via MMAJunkie.com, Noons said:
“Even though I wasn’t on TV, or maybe a lot of people weren’t watching me, I stayed pretty busy and got sharper and better. That was pretty much the main thing for me. I think this is a good fight for me to get back out there for people that don’t know who I am to show them my skill level and kind of where I sit.”
“It was a good time with the whole EliteXC dissolving for me to go to boxing. Last year, I was boxing. I had some fights to fulfill. But I was in contact with (Strikeforce CEO) Scott (Coker), and they just had a bunch of events lined up for 2010, so I felt like it was a great time for me to come back. I was staying busy in boxing so I don’t get that ringrust. I stayed pretty busy, so I feel pretty good.”
Noons then turned his attentions to the fight at hand, tonight’s showdown with dangerous ground wizard, Conor Heun.
“I don’t care. Once they taste the leather, everybody wants to take me down. That’s what I prepare for. Everybody wants to take me to the ground and lay on me – lay and pray and put rounds in the bag. If I want someone to lay on me, I’ll get my girlfriend to lay on me. I train my hardest to make it exciting.”
“That’s what I shoot for every fight – hopefully to just let fans watch it and every fight be a barnburner. It doesn’t matter if I’m facing Conor or whoever. This is my job. I train my ass off to put on the best show for everybody. I’m willing to work from the bottom to the top. It doesn’t really matter for me. I’m going to put on exciting fights no matter what. If Strikeforce wants me to fight every guy on the way to the title, that’s fine.”
Noons is undefeated in his last four fights, defeating the likes of former UFC veteran, Yves Edwards and current Strikeforce welterweight champion, Nick Diaz in that time. He was last seen at DREAM 13 in March, defeating Andre Amade via unanimous decision.
