Eduardo Alonso says “Shogun” Rua will come back stronger than ever after recent surgery
UFC light heavyweight champion, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua will come back stronger than ever after recent surgery on his knee according to his manager, Eduardo Alonso.
Speaking via Tatame Magazine, Alonso said:
“It’s nothing too serious, everything is fine. He’s in a great moment in his life and that’s what matters. Mauricio is fine, happy, and he’ll be back soon stronger than ever.”
“He [Shogun] thanks all the support and messages he has received in the past days, but everything is fine, everything like we’ve planned.”
Alonso also spoke to GracieMag.com later in the day, adding:
“He’s doing great, thank God, but we’d like to keep things on the down low for now. The important part is that everything’s fine, he’s happy and with his family. Shogun is taking a rest and will be back better than ever. I can’t give you a return date, but it will be before anyone would have expected.”
“We’re taking care of things and would rather keep things quiet for now because rest is fundamental. It happened during the fight. We have full backing from the UFC and doing everything just right.”
“Shogun” injured his knee during a takedown attempt when he fought and defeated Lyoto Machida at UFC 113 in May and the subsequent surgery has postponed his first title defence against number one contender, Rashad Evans. That fight is likely to happen around October/November although it could be saved for a spectacular showdown in the New Year. Stay tuned to MMABay for all the latest news on this.
