“Rampage” Jackson points the finger at Greg Jackson for boring fight with Rashad Evans

June 16, 2010 All MMA News, UFC 7 Comments

Former UFC light heavyweight champion, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson has pointed the finger at world renowned MMA coach, Greg Jackson for turning his recent fight with Rashad Evans into a snooze fest.

Speaking to Fighters Only Magazine, Jackson said:

“I apologise for the fight not so much because I lost but because of how it went down. I always like to put on exciting fights for the fans but Rashad came out to use that ‘Greg Jackson’ plan: be boring and squeak out a victory. So that bothers me more than the loss.”

Jackson also addressed the reason he didn’t go for the kill in the third round, explaining he was wary of getting taken to the ground again by the talented wrestler.

“The reason why is because I thought he wanted me to rush in so he could take me down again. That’s the worst time to rush in and take somebody out. So the whole time I was walking on eggshells and trying to keep him from taking me down because Rashad is an awesome wrestler and I was having trouble getting up off the floor. So I figured if I rushed in he was gonna take me down.”

“I remember one other thing he was doing – he was punching me in my knee! It was weird because I had suffered a real bad knee injury in camp but we kept it secret, we didn’t say anything about it and we didn’t even tell the UFC. I told my doctor and that was it,  he helped me out but I was going to back out of the fight. The only reason I didn’t back out was the fight had been so hyped and I didn’t want to disappoint the fans. Why was he punching me in the knee though? That’s kind of weird – did he find out about the injury? I don’t know. Its weird.”

Jackson spoke to MMABay earlier this week and revealed he’s got one eye on a rematch with the man who defeated him for the light heavyweight title two years ago, Forrest Griffin. Stay tuned to MMABay to see if he gets his wish.

Interesting… watched the fight again on account of that, and it was rather odd. At 4:15 in the 1st round there’s a hammer fist to the right knee. Kinda came out of nowhere… not a big deal, until it got to about 2:45 in the 2nd, when Rashad starts wailing on that knee with hammer fists. Stop watching as the point was made. Not a very typical technique, unless you know something…

sounds like maybe your friends don’t like you that much

COMPLAINER! Suck up the loss like the man you claim to be.

  4. reppob says:

Wow he really does have an excuse for all his losses.

It’s becoming a tired act. Hand him to Machida and then cut him after he loses.

He can then be free to be an actor full-time.

‘Greg Jackson’ plan: be boring and squeak out a victory.

Rampage is right. It’s a brutally boring effective strategy to control, pin, hold, and steal decisions. I wouldn’t call it a fighting system though. And I certainly wouldn’t call it entertaining either. Watching the new Rashad is like watching paint dry. I’ld much rather watch fighters who actually want to fight – like Franklin and Liddell – anytime over other top tier duds.

oldschool, yet when GSP does even LESS than Rashad people rave about him labelling his performance a masterclass of MMA? come on.

Rampage is a striker, Rashad is a wrestler so did you expect anything else? Carwin did it to Mir, he used his brute strength to hold him against the cage then exploded with flurries and finished the fight, the difference is Rashad stayed on his feet and tried to stand and bang whereas with GSP the only thing he did and wanted to do was lay and pray for 25 minutes.

Now, had GSP done the exact same thing as Rashad people would say it was an amazing win for GSP, yet whenever anyone else does the same people say it’s boring and not MMA, lawl…

If Rampage thinks everyone is going to stand and bang with him then he’s in the wrong sport, as people said after 25 mins of GSP lay and pray, that is MMA.

I find it funny how everyone says “he has an excuse for all his losses.” People its not like he got his ass kicked, if he lands one of those punches on Rashad’s glass chin that fight was over. The one part about the UFC that pisses me off is that because a guy takes him down during the fight that guy will win over the fighter who hurt the other one and almost had a knockout. I would love to take you trash talkers about Rampage and throw you in the octagon with him and then lets see how much shit you talk then…..

Everyone acts like Rashad kicked Rampage’s ass, c’mon now. Rashad barely squeeked by and was an inch from being laid out. Rampage will come back and what everyone FORGETS IS RAMPAGE WAS A COLLEGE WRESTLER AND WAS DAMN GOOD. If he uses his wrestling he would be dominate and why he doesn’t use it more is confusing. Rampage will come back better than ever and we will stick these shit talkers in the octagon with him and watch how fast they piss themselves!!
