UFN 21 – Gerald Harris finishes Mario Miranda with a flurry of punches in the first round
Former “Ultimate Fighter” cast member, Gerald Harris scored an impressive first round TKO stoppage tonight at UFC Fight Night 21 in Charlotte, North Carolina, landing a big right hand before following up with a flurry of punches to extend his current winning streak to nine fights.
Despite Harris being a wrestler and Miranda having a background in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, the fight stayed predominantly on the feet, with both fighters coming close to landing a telling blow on more than one occasion. Miranda was always threatening with a head-kick, while Harris was ready to counter with a straight right down the pipe. The Brazilian dropped his opponent late on in the round only for Harris to survive the onslaught from his knees. Once back to his feet, Harris landed the right he had been threatening all night, knocking Miranda to the ground although he quickly attempted to scramble back to his feet. Harris nailed him again, dropping him to his back this time, before following up with a third shot that saw the referee jumping in to make the save.
The wins is Harris’ second on the spin since returning to the octagon and could pocket him his second straight “Knockout of the Night” bonus in the process. With his increased level of experience, solid wrestling background and heavy hands, Harris has all the makings of a future contender given time.
